As you leave the tunnel you are confronted with...(Confronted with?) a passing loop. This loop was for the busier periods for quarry trains to let passenger trains past. It still has a use today on busier timetables, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy watching a train pass, or being the one passing!
Also out of hours, it is used for storage of stock and as a access point for maintenance.
